Road Trip - Feb 2001

7:10 am - Friday, Feb 9th

We averaged about 10 mpg in this piece of junk.

The truck is packed, and we are heading out!

Roll on Columbia

Three hours later we hit Oregon...
It was the site of our only major fight, (related to Candace's inability to read a map).

Sunny California

That big hook that looks like a Cobra's head in northern California is where we ended up for the evening on the first day.

End of Day 1
We made it through the Siskiyous just fine
but got stuck in Yreka, about 30 miles north of our goal for the day (Weed),
because I-5 was closed due to snow.
We had to buy snow-chains for the rental truck (a mere $75)
which we never ended up using, except as a door stop in
our new Tucson digs three days later.
This picture is from the Weather Channel on
Saturday morning, just before we headed south.

I-5, Saturday Morning

Trucks as far as the eye can see going south (at 2 mph!)

Mount Shasta

Not making much forward progress here,
but we never had to mount the chains,
and we got through to Visalia after about 11 more hours of driving.

I-5, Sunday Morning

Heading up the Grapevine into LA

I-10, Sunday Afternoon

We zoomed through LA and by Palm Springs and headed east to the promised land!

Our first actual Arizona Sunset (Sunday night) as "residents".

We ended up quitting late Sunday night about and hour from Tucson
at Casa Grande. We then made the final run on Monday morning.
We unloaded the truck into our "Golf Villa"...pictures follow.

Before the unloading

looking from living room to den area. Looking from living roon to wet bar area. There's a nice little patio off the bedroom. Dining room area. Dining area towards patio.

Mike's moved in!

Wine Cellar under construction

It took about 3 days to build this monster
and we still have about three times as much wine as will fit in it
back in Seattle. We brought down about 300 bottles this trip.

Candace, Dewey, Jan, and Molly

We played golf with Jan/Dewey and then had dinner
with them and Dewey's daughter (Molly).
They just bought a house in Tucson so we'll be seeing them
a lot once we get down there permanently.
